2007-03-16 Bittersweet Memories My Aunt Maggie passed away last night. She was 91 and led a marvelous, long fulfilling life. She was full blood Italian and made everything from scratch, even the dough of the raviolis, and she had the BEST raviolis. She brewed chalk beer in the shed behind her house and believe me, you never tasted better. She always sang this little tune to the kids that said, "I love you a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck." She even passed it on the latest generation when she taught it to the Divine Miss M. Wednesday night, when Margaret Lou (Aunt Maggie's daughter) was leaving she said, "I love you, Mom" and Aunt Maggie didn't say anything and Margaret Lou said, "Do you love me?" and Aunt Maggie shook her head yes and Margaret Lou said, "How much?" and Aunt Maggie said, "A bushel and a peck." It turns out that those are the last words she said b/c she crashed that night/early morning and never regained consciousness. She passed away peacefully last night. I'll miss her. << & >>
